Behind the name: Logan

There are many places given the name "Logan." Logan Mountain is the highest mountain in Canada, at 19,850 feet, and was named after Sir W. E. Logan (1798-1875), the Canadian geologist. The Logan medal is now given to outstanding Canadian geologists. Logan is a city in Utah and Ohio, a town in Alabama, Iowa, and New Mexico, and a place in Australia. It is a county in Colorado, Kansas, West Virginia, and Illinois. It is also an international airport in Boston.

The Dacia Logan was a 4-door sedan built by Renault and Dacia in the 1990's, and is a hard rock band from Scotland. It is also a berry, developed when James Harvey Logan crossed a raspberry with a blackberry. It is a restaurant, Logan's Roadhouse, and an Act (Logan Act) by George Logan, which prohibits private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments.

Several celebrities have named their children Logan, including James Taylor, Robert Plant,
Chipper Jones, and Ed Kookie Burns. Logan became popular in 1990, breaking into the top 100 boy's names, and has remained there since. It peaked in popularity in 2006 and 2007 when it was ranked 19th. Logan is also in the top 100 in Canada, Scotland, New Zealand, Belgium, Britain, England, and Australia.

Logan can also be spelled Logen, Logann, or Lohgan. Nicknames include Lo, Log, Logie, and Gann.
