Pain relief guide

Despite the fact that it weakens bones, causes cataracts, shrinks muscles, hardens the arteries and activates latent diabetes, the worst side-effect reported by users was increased appetite, which resulted in significant weight gain and facial swelling.

If you are having body aches with a fever, due to the flu or a cold, good old aspirin with chicken soup and rest is still the best prescription! However, if you are experiencing a high fever with a stiff neck, headache, and/or nausea, get to the hospital immediately as this could indicate meningitis, a brain infection, often fatal, if not treated promptly.

If you are suffering from CHEST, STOMACH, OR ABDOMINAL pain, it's important you get a proper diagnosis, especially if it is a recurring problem. If you're sure you've just eaten too much and it's indigestion, then you can usually treat that by taking some Pepto Bismol, or chewing on some Tums. Drinking a large glass of milk can also ease stomach symptoms, as can drinking some warm mexican tea known as "Herba Buena" (good herb). I've been told that mothers have been using this for centuries for upset stomachs and babies with colic. Make sure you sit up for at least 30 minutes after treatment. Avoid taking any analgesics as they are irritants to the stomach and will most likely aggravate your condition.

If you find yourself starting to perspire, or have feelings of intense anxiety, and/or pain in your left arm, chest and/or jaw, call 911 immediately, as you may be having a heart attack.

OTHER TYPES OF PAIN which are usually chronic in nature, really need to be assessed by a doctor who can run the tests necessary to acurately diagnose your condition. If you are suffering from pain on a regular basis and it is interferring with living your life to the fullest, there are a host of medications and other therapies that can be employed to not only treat the pain, but more importantly, treat the underlying CAUSE of your pain. These medications are known as Disease Modifying Rheumatic Drugs or DMARDS such as Plaquenil, Imuran and Cyclosporine, to name just a few. They can be quite effective at controlling the inflammatory damage and resulting pain that occurs in the connective tissue, bones, muscles, and joints in diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and a host of other autoimmune disorders. These are serious drugs with serious side effects and should only be taken after a disease warranting their use has been confirmed by a specialist.
