and poor vision. Make sure to get a dental check-up and see an optometrist if your headaches persist, despite treatment.
If you are feeling nauseous in addition to having a throbbing head, and the light is bothering you, then you are most likely suffering from a MIGRAINE HEADACHE. Using aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprophen temporarily will help, but usually migraine headaches need to be treated with medications which can only be prescribed by a physician; make an appointment as soon as you can. Until then, rest in a cool, dark, quiet room and take some meclizine for dizziness and motion sickness which often occurs with migraine headaches and can be quite debilitating and unbearable.
If you are having head and/or facial pain together, you are most likely suffering from a condition having to do with congested sinuses caused by allergic reactions, pollen, dander, dust mites, a cold, the flu, sinusitis, a deviated septum, or a sinus infection. If you have a fever over 99.0 for more than a couple of days, make sure to see a doctor. Fever, with the above symptoms usually indicates a sinus infection, which will require antibiotics to clear it up.
In addition to the above analgesics recommended, you might want to add a decongestant to the mix as well. However, check with your doctor if you have high blood pressure, as this will raise it slightly.
If you are sneezing, itching, have watery eyes and/or nose, you most likely are having an allergic reaction and will need to take an antihistamine such as Benadryl, or a generic equivalent. Make sure you don't have to drive, or do anything else that requires you to be wide awake, as antihistamines can make some people quite drowsy.
If you know your symptoms are primarily allergy-related, you can take a prescription strength drug available over-the-counter called Claritin, or loratidine. its generic form . which works just as well. This medication is great because it controls your symptoms without making you drowsy and is generally safe for those with high blood pressure.
IMPORTANT- If you find yourself experiencing "the worst headache of your life", call 911 immediately, especially if you are experiencing dizziness, blurred vision, slurred speech, and/or confusion, as these are all signs of a stroke, a very serious incident which can be fatal if not treated immediately.
BODY ACHES are another common complaint and can be brought on by everything from exercising too hard, to the flu, to much more serious conditions like leukemia.
