The subject of a baby's security encompasses so many things. People will be trying to give you so much advice, from ensuring you wrap your baby to rocking them to sleep. But as a mother of three, who have all slept through from approximately six weeks to eight weeks of age and rarely cry, let me impart some of my knowledge.
This is my method and my hints and tips to a happy and content baby.
1) CONFIDENCE
As a parent, especially a new parent who finds themselves with this new bundle that they really don't know much about, besides it hollering for a feed every few hours, you need to be confident and have confidence in what you're doing.
Babies seem to have a sixth sense and can detect a parent's anxiety immediately.
They're tougher than they look these babies, don't let them fool you.
I cannot stress how your confidence in yourself will affect your baby. A calm and confident mom makes for a calm and content baby.
2) CRYING BABY
In regards to crying, this is how a baby communicates when they have an issue. The issues a baby can have a terribly minor, although being so little and being a new mother listening to the performance a baby can put on, you'd think it was the end of the world. A baby will cry when they're hungry, need a change and when tired.
3) FEEDING & BATHING & ROUTINES
Being a new mom you need to learn routines and patterns. A system that works for me is have a bottle ready before baby wakes if bottle feeding. Feed the baby immediately upon waking. I will usually give half a bottle, then take it away and change their nappy. Then I will play with them for a small amount of time, feed the remainder of the bottle, wrap and put down.
Demand feed you baby, if they want more give it to them. A baby will not overeat; if they're not hungry they won't eat. But if they are and you think you've fed them enough, then you may have a baby who is demanding to be fed.
When bathing a new born baby, they do not need to be bathed often when first born as they have natural oils. Try for every second or third day, always bathe at night to keep them calm and relaxed. Warm your baby's clothes and towel near a heater ready for when they leave the bath.
Try to bath at the same time each time.
4) GETTING WIND FROM A BABY
My theory on wind, if you do not get a burp from your baby within three minutes it will travel down to the bottom side. If your baby does suffer wind, there are numerous techniques for expelling the trapped air. I personally prefer three different methods, over my shoulder,
