turning things around.
The timing of the rise of Manchester United coincided with the re-branding of the English league to the Premiership and major TV deals that led them to gain more followers worldwide and thus, fill their coffers to the brim. They were the richest club in the world and with all that money, waved it around to buy the best players to add to their already talented squad of young players like Beckham, Giggs and Scholes. They paid the highest dollars to get their man and success came in abundance, winning title after title. Then, in the fall of 1996, Arsenal announced the arrival of a new manager to replace George Graham and his name was Arsene Wenger. Nobody had heard of him outside his native France or Japan, where he was managing, but they soon would. Wenger not only revolutionized Arsenal from boring' to one of the most exciting teams to watch but also started wining titles, something the fans craved.
He won the league title in 1998, 2002 and 2004, the year they became to be known as the "Invincibles" as they went the whole season unbeaten with 26 wins and 12 draws. From 1997 to 2004, he finished second every other time when he didn't become champion. But his challenge became a breath of fresh air to break the dominance of Mancunians and Mourinho's arrival did the same when the fans were getting used to the two-horse title race every year between the Manc's and the Gunners. The blue half of London brought a new style to the game and made the title's destination more interesting. The new boys' were of coursed backed by the Russian billionare Mr, Abramovich and his cash injected the Chelsea team with a flurry of new arrivals and immediate expectations were placed on the team before a single ball was kicked.
With all this new players, earning ludicrous sums of money, they needed a man for the job and found Mourinho to be the right one after Ranieri proved to be not up to the mark. The titles he won at Chelsea are a testament for his abilities and character. Wenger, The Professor', want's to play champagne football with slick passing and audacious flicks while Fergie lilke playing effective football with out sacrificing style. Mourinho's philosophy was simple, win at all cost. He did not care to play nice or be aesthetically pleasing as winning was everything and nothing else matters. His determination and will power to succeed rubbed off on his players and mediocre players became stars and improved tremendously under his tutelage.
