Tips for teaching good work ethics to children

Tips for teaching good work ethics to children:

Teach and lead by example. This is the first thing a parent must realize as the most important thing they can do for their child/children to help them form good work ethics.

It is up to the parents to set a good example for their child/children from a very early age. The best way to instill good work ethics for your child/children is to begin at an early age. At the age of one or once your child begins to walk it is not too early to teach your child to pick up their toys, and clean up after themselves, such as putting their dirty clothes in the laundry, small chores such as these will be the beginning of their learning process. Always remember to praise your child for a job well done.

As your child gets older, the chores will become more involved, taking out the trash, keeping their room clean and so forth. It is still important to continue to praise your child, let them know what a good job they have done and they are appreciated. Tell them they have done a good job even when it does not always meet your expectations. Soon you will notice they will be keeping their room clean without being asked, since they have been use to cleaning up after themselves from such a young age.

An allowance is an incentive, though they should only earn an allowance for things they do that are not of their everyday chores. For example, helping clean the garage or cutting the grass is not one of their everyday chores, this is when an allowance is a good idea to offer money incentive for these chores are not a part of their daily routine. Therefore, allowances should be a reward for projects that are not a part of their everyday chores.

Making your child/children responsible in school. Make them aware of how important school is in life. Encouraging them by getting them involved in an activity at school is a way to show children they are accountable, and others who depend on them. This will help to form good work ethics in your child/children.

However, leading by example is the most important thing you can do to instill good work ethics in your child/children. When a child sees that his parents taking responsibility and going to work every day, or stay at home moms take care of the needs of the home, this is what children will notice and take with them into adulthood. Parents that work steady do not switch jobs often or are concerned about their own performance at work or home. These are the children that will grow to be responsible adults, with healthy work ethics.
