What makes the Internet so great

by Laura Leigh Fields

Created on: January 21, 2008

I am hooked. I hunger for my addiction. The drug I am on is not crack, crank or pot. I don't snort it or smoke it. It is far more powerful than any drug out there and an unlimited fix costs me less than ten bucks a month. I am addicted to the Internet.

There is so much to do online. I can google anything and get a hit. I can look up fun facts. I can read about new movies or songs. I can learn more about my favorite musicians. I can explore the World Wide Web with child like eyes. It is my playground.

I sit shaking as I await my turn. My husband and I share one computer. He plays poker online for what seems like an eternity. I used to root for him to loose but then, he only registered for another. As soon as he stands up, I plan on stealing his seat.

I anxiously check my emails. I am so excited for the letters. I love the jokes. They all make me smile. I saw my mail woman the other day. She said she didn't like having to constantly clean the cobwebs out of my mailbox. I didn't realize I still had one outside.

I walk around my house looking for things to sale on E-bay. That place is so addictive I just can not seem to get enough. I don't need the money that I make from the sale of my stuff. I just need the space for all the stuff I just bought there.

There are chat rooms around every corner. I can pick a room based on a hobby or other favorite activity. I can even go in a fetish room. I can post on message boards. People from foreign lands are right there on the other side of the computer screen. It is so intriguing!

I can play games all night. There is such a big variety to choose from. I can role play, join a tournament, or do word puzzles alone. There is always something fun there to entertain me.

I have so many friends online. I want to check and make sure they are o.k. I am closer to some of my online friends than I am my real life friends. I have to talk to them daily.

My wrists hurt from all the typing. I have broken every nail that I have ever had. I look like death warmed over. I haven't slept for days. It is hard to pry myself away from all the excitement. I think the cobwebs are starting to grow around me, also.

My computer is less than slow by today's standards. I am on a dial up connection. My windows are busted. My mouse has a short in it. My keyboard has several sticky keys. I have even had a few viruses but I can not walk away. Something keeps bringing me back online. I can not stay away. I can not get enough.
