Poetry: Death of a loved one

The Angel Who Kept His Wings

Perfectly formed
Designed by a King
Sent to our family to happiness bring
A little one from beyond the sun
A tiny angel without his wings

You were there from the start
Growing just under my heart
Our own special gift from heaven above
How we longed for the day
You would come here to stay
And fill our hearts and home with love

As we waited eagerly for your arrival

We spent hours shopping for just the right things
Handled with love and chosen with care
Clothes fit for a little one to wear
A bassinet adorned with soft delicate lace
Each special thing sitting in its own special place

We made plans to take you to see the animals in the zoo
Every day find something new to show you
Shower you with kisses and surround you with joy
Nothing was too much to ask for our little girl or boy
Picnics in the gardens and swimming at the beach
The moment of your arrival was always just beyond our reach

At long last the special day of your arrival was finally here
And you said farewell to those in the heavenly sphere
The Father watched over you as you travelled towards your birth
He saw you growing weary with every passing hour
So in His wisdom He called you to return to His wonderful home

Your journey to the earth was more than your tiny soul could bear
We pleaded with you to stay with us but the Father called you home
Your tired heart gave one last frail beat and then you lay so still
Our arms ached with emptiness and our tears drenched our pillows every night

We wont ever stop loving you our tiny little one
We look for your sparkling eyes in every twinkling shiny star
And feel your kisses brush our tear-stained cheeks when the gentle breezes blow
Until we meet again we know that God is watching over you
Our very own special angel who got to keep his wings
