The old man set on the hilltop
Remembering the days of his youth
Life was so much simpler then
And God's word was the honest truth
In his heart he saw himself
As a young and happy man
Running through a field of flowers
holding his sweetheart's hand
They tumbled to the ground
And he stole a kiss or two
He felt her breath in his ear
As she whispered, "I Love You."
That lovely girl, a few months later
Became his loving wife
He always said that day at the altar
Was the happiest day of his life
Their years of marriage weren't easy
But for the most part life was good
Troubles always passed quickly
As she always said they would
But the troubles were here to stay
At least that is how it seems
He buried her last Sunday
With all his hopes and dreams
His mind drifted to the present
A tear ran down his cheek
His memories are so strong
But his body was frail and weak
The field of his youth are gone
Replaced with steel and concrete
But the flowers in his mind
Still filled the air with a scent so sweet
He sat for a moment longer
Then rose like a king from his throne
He walked down from the hilltop
To face the world alone

Death must enter freely into our confused dominion.
This opens up an important opportunity for humanity.
By allowing life

the road narrows
forcing me to confront the possibility
I have traveled too far
