The best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned is a Dyson. I have the model DC07ANIMAL. Although vacuuming is not one of my favorite tasks, I find that I actually enjoy using my Dyson because it cleans so well.
When I first moved into my new house, I had borrowed my boyfriends Hoover Windtunnel and it seemed to pick up pretty well. I used it on my entire house and was pleased, but it was only on loan and I needed to go buy my own vacuum.
While I was out shopping the next day, I saw dozens of different models and they all started to look about the same to me. Then, I saw a lady giving a Dyson demonstration to another customer and heard the whole sales pitch. The more I listened, the more I was intrigued. She especially caught my attention when she said that the Dyson had a life expectancy of 9 years when used daily, but the other brands only had a 1 to 2 year life expectancy when used daily. She had me right up until I saw the price tag. Holy Cow! $399.00 for the base model and $549.00 for the deluxe with all the extra attachments! I thought for that kind of money it should be able to vacuum all by itself and do my laundry too.
I moved on to some of the lesser expensive models similar to the one I had owned previously, but still listened a bit to what the lady was saying. She showed how easy it was to empty the canister, just by removing the canister from the vacuum by the handle and pulling a trigger. Poof! The bottom of the canister opened and she dumped an entire canister of dirt and nasty looking stuff right on the carpet! In the blink of an eye, she had snapped the canister back on without taking her hand off the handle and in 1 sweep, the vacuum had sucked every last bit of the dirt back into the canister. I was amazed! My previous vacuum cleaner at home had never been able to do that! Mine always took at least 4 or 5 passes over heavy dirt to pick it up and even then it would still leave traces, but not the Dyson.
I was so impressed that I found myself asking for the deluxe model. I couldn't believe that I payed that kind of money for a vacuum. When I got it home, I had it put together in about 2 minutes. I knew that my carpets had all been vacuumed the night before, so I didn't really expect the Dyson to pick up much, but was I ever surprised!
By the time I finished vacuuming my living room, the entire canister was full. Then I noticed something else... the carpet looked fluffier. The house is new to me, but is actually about 15 years old and still has the original carpet. The Dyson made my carpet look almost new again! I just couldn't believe that the Hoover had left that much dirt behind. When I went to empty the canister, it looked like some sort of pet hair and dirt. Yucko! When I finished vacuuming the rest of the house, I had filled the canister 3 more times. After that, I was in love with my new vacuum and didn't regret the hefty price tag.
In fact, the vacuum did such a great job on my house that I decided to see how it would stand up to my mother's expensive Electrolux Oxygen3 that cost about $600, so I took the vacuum to her house, used her Electrolux, then went back over the entire house with my Dyson. I filled the canister in the first room alone. I had to empty the canister several more times before I was done. Mom wasn't so pleased with her Electrolux after that.
Although the Dyson isn't cheap, it is certainly a great value. It has lifetime filters and comes with a 5 year warranty. The attachments work great and it couldn't possibly be any easier to use. I wouldn't trade my Dyson for anything!
