TODDLER TALK
My little one has language skill
That far exceeds her age.
Her humor's greater than vaudeville,
She lives for center stage.
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
It doesn't matter what she wants,
Or where she needs to go.
At home, in stores or restaurants,
Her favorite word is "No!"
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
So I can cast a glance her way,
And she'll grin to both ears,
Or frown her way to say "Obey!"
And bring her straight to tears.
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
But she may toss her head about
To catch me to the quick,
Or ponder with her pretty pout,
A toddler's dirty trick.
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
She holds a power in her smile
That captivates her mom.
Maternal fondness, e'er in style,
My anger will becalm.
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
This witty child that holds my heart
Has caught my number, sure.
Though parenting should be an art,
It is a comic tour.
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
Regardless of her state or mood,
I know she means to mind.
Despite her toddler attitude,
Our hearts are intertwined.
We share a fluency, our own,
With wordings rare and true,
And enter, thus, our private zone,
That's just between us two.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
The terrible twos are truly not so terrible after all. May these lines warm the hearts of tired moms and encourage them to hold on and try to find the humor of these fast-flying months. Motherhood really does run at warp speed, and toddlers quickly metamorphosize into preschoolers, kindergartners and even high schoolers!
