Reflections: Wildlife
My husband is a bow hunter. He really tried to turn me into one. But I just didn't have the desire to kill the deer. Instead it was more fun just observing the wildlife. Over the years I have made many journeys to the tree stand with my bow hunter. It has been amazing to me the things that you see while sitting quietly in a tree. The best time of day for me is the morning hours. I love to be in the tree stand and watch the sun come up. God always provides a spectacular display.
But as the night turns to light, not only does the sunrise give you great pleasure but the wildlife does also. I have discovered that every household is the same. At home, you wake up and start your day by doing whatever pleases you first thing. Then if you are a parent the kids begin to wake up also. Now things begin to get a little hectic in the house. Everyone is doing their own thing to get ready for their day. There is the hussle and bussle of breakfast. Then packing lunches, making the beds. The list goes on and on. In the animal kingdom it is pretty much the same.
As the sun starts to rise, you can hear the faint stirrings of the mice in the grass. There are faint squeals as the house begins to wake up. Soon you can hear them running here and there preparing for the dawn. It is so funny to listen to this commotion. It is so like my home first thing of the morning! I can only imagine mommy mouse yelling to the kids to hurry up and get ready or they will all be late!
Then the squirrels begin to chatter to each other. Soon there is a game of tag going on from tree to tree. Two or three squirrels will be playing and making so much racket that you swear there is a herd of elephants out there. One time I was watching two little squirrels playing. They were chasing each other unaware that I was even there in a tree. Branch to branch they chased each other. Then I heard a snap and a crash along with excited chatter from the unlucky one. I could only wonder what he was saying as he landed on the ground! Soon they were back in the trees playing. This time one of them ran up the tree I was sitting in and we came face to face. It scared us both. It was funny seeing the look of surprise in his little face. I wonder what he thought about me!
We have a feeder for the animals setup. And I always enjoy watching them as they scramble over the corn. The turkeys come in by the dozen. They strut their stuff then proceed to eat. Soon a covey of quail will mosey in. Now for little birds,
