The best way for the US to lose its influence in the Middle East would be for President Bush to suddenly announce our withdrawal from Iraq. This would constitute a total replay of our actions in 1973 in Viet Nam. Do we once again want to send our troops home with not only the taste of failure in their mouths; but with the thought that all of their efforts have been wasted? Are we really willing to leave a power vacuum in a country and leave it susceptible to takeover by Iran? Have we really learned nothing from the past and are we really willing to continually content to keep repeating the same mistakes as a Country? Are all of these questions and more must be answered before we take this kind of action.
And what would be the possible ramifications for not only our Country but for the Middle East if we suddenly pull our troops out of Iraq? Its a simple matter for politicians and for us as citizens to debate this issue and decide we've had enough. And just like Viet Nam, the mainstream liberal press have not been giving the American people the complete picture of what is going on. The press conveniently overlooks the good things our troops have done in Iraq, the building of hospitals, schools, power stations, water treatment plants, etc. And the individual contributions of our men and women serving there. Instead the press has concentrated on reporting and blowing out of proportion the misguided, tragic, and sometimes even criminal actions of a very small minority of some of our men and women. The press gladly publishes each and every protest inside Iraq against our troops, but seldom shows the pictures of Iraqis thanking our men and women. Given the bias of the press this is not surprising. After all what supports their point of view the best; a picture of Iraqis burning
