The Internet is a great tool for everyone from children to adults. For example, students are able to do research on their next presentation, mothers can get tips on motherhood, children can follow their favorite cartoons on-line and seniors... Seniors can use the Internet as a tool for the latest news, travel and even companionship in a sometimes lonely world.
I have noticed in my research that the older generation reads their current events from the Internet rather then the morning paper. A paper can be published only once a day, a magazine maybe once a month, but an Internet article can be published with just a click of a button. Popular sites that deal with news are as followed CNN.com, news.google.com and news.yahoo.com. If someone was unhappy with those sites they could just type 'current events' or 'news' into their favorite search engine.
I have also noticed travel planning over the Internet is a lot easier then going to your local travel agent. As we know the older we get the harder it gets to move around. Through sites like travelocity, you can make reservations as well as research a vacation spot through the click of a button. Typing 'vacation' into your favorite search engine will bring you several documents from the dictionary definition of the word to the hottest spot to travel this year.
If you get lonely but find it hard to get out of the house, chat rooms are a great way to meet people. On-line service providers such as America Online and yahoo have several chat rooms for older people who want to get together or just chat to pass the time.
The Internet had been transformed not only as a way for colleges to communicate with each other, but a way for seniors to still witness the best the world has to offer from the privacy of their own home.
