I've heard many different ways to play drum discretely with out the neighbors complaining.
1 common form for the budget drummer is Macdonald's cups, may seem crazy but it works, if you have no budget just buy acoustic foam. or use old carpet and put it up on your walls so many ways to play drums with out disturbing the neighbors. Otherwise if you dont mind the sounds of your drums being compromised then you can simply use drum mutes. another simple cost efficient way is small mouse pads they are cheap and they work good as an alternative to expensive drum mutes. I mean have you thought about the possibility that you can ask your neighbors at what times it would be appropriate to play? that could work if not try one of the above steps. its all very simple. another thing i can think of is carpet, basically if you can afford to carpet the room you play it , that will drastically reduce the decibel level of the noise you make then you can add on to with acoustic for or w/e you want. one more thing would be a sound shield they work fine and are pretty expensive but if you can afford it then go for it cause its totally worth it 100%. I mean theres a million things you can do to make you drums quiet its just a matter of find the one to fit your circumstances, have you thought? you can buy a cheap electronic drum set and i know it sacrifices so much but if you live in an apartment there not much you can do about. If all else fails then just create a band if you're not already in one and find a place you can practice, a nice little garage with a/c will do perfectly. the drums is one of my favorite instruments, Ever since I was small they have always fascinated me, but due to the loudest of them my parents refused to let me have some. so one day I joined a band with friends and we practiced at the guitarists house and it was perfectly because the neighbors didnt mind. so if you can find someones house to jam out for a bit that neighbors wouldn't mind that would be amazing, just keep searching and researching and maybe you can eventually come up with your own method of muting or lowering the decible level of your drums
