How to survive a zombie Apocalypse

Okay, picture the scene: for some reason the dead are rising from the grave and feasting on the flesh of the living. This can't be a good thing. The odds are the media won't be telling you nothing more than the usual "we're just getting confirmation that these creatures are feasting on the bodies of their victims" and good advice like "stay in your homes" and occasionally really good advice "if you kill the brain, you kill the ghoul", but for the most part you're on your own.

Here's a few tips I've learned from watching lots of zombie films - I mean I've watched WAY too many of them, so this should work pretty well.

1. Security. The first thing you should do is find a good place to hole up for a while. Make sure it's secure, but has at least two or three exits. Also make sure it has a good supply of food and clean water. If it has lots of weapons that will be helpful as well. If you find that others are already there the odds are that they might not want to share the location with you. Let them know how much strength there is in numbers - it also helps if you have a valuable skill like a doctor, policemen, or former soldier.

2. Defenses. Now, everyone knows that the easiest way to take out a member of the walking dead is to cause severe damage to the brain or base of the spine. A shot to the head is your best bet, but sometimes ammunition can be a bit difficult to obtain. So, be sure to have a backup plan for defense just in case that shotgun runs out of shells - or if you just have to reload. chainsaws are always a plus, but they need fuel - make sure you have plenty and don't just leave them around. In too many movies I've seen people get killed by the same weapons they were trying to use to defend themselves. Fire is a good method as well, but all too often the fuel gets spilled and next thing you know the whole crew is on fire.

3. Your companions. Get to know everyone right off of the bat. Learn each other's strengths and weaknesses. Make sure everyone is properly examined so that you can tell if anyone's been bitten recently. If they have, apologize to any loved ones they might have and get rid of them quickly. A quick decapitation can save lives in the long run. If one of your companions looks like they might lose it at any moment they are a liability. Find a way to deal with them. You could lock them up, but they might get free. If you feel they're more of a danger than an asset, kill them. I know this sounds a bit harsh, but this is the zombie apocalypse
