Sage blossoms in the middle of the summer with small white, blue or purple flowers and its fresh leaves are bitter to taste. Sage has antioxidant properties used by food industries to improve the stability of oils that are kept in storage for long periods of time.
Main ingredients in sage include volatile oil, thujone, diterpene bitters, tannins, camphor, resin, triterpenoids, estrogenic, flavonoids, phenolic acids, substances, rosmarinic, caffeic acids and saponins. Advantages of sage is known to have anti-allergic effects and acts as an antiperspirant, antiseptic, carminative, antispasmodic, astringent and antibiotic.
Calming the central nervous system and reducing anxiety are advantages of sage tea. Sage is also high in calcium and provides vitamin C and B-complex as well as potassium, magnesium and zinc. The advantages of sage tea are its bitter digestive stimulant that acts to relieve digestive problems, sooth spasms in smooth and skeletal muscles and has estrogenic substances to help regulate menstruation.
Sage tea can be used for healing purposes either cold or hot. The advantages of sage tea cold helps reduce night sweats in menopausal women and will reduce milk flow in breast-feeding mothers. Sage infusion acts as an expectorant when the tea is hot with advantages of relieving common colds and flu. Sage has antibacterial properties to eliminate gingivitis and used as a mouthwash and antiseptic
