Poetry: Facing life

The Most Important Gift

I've seen the way down and I don't want to go back
My eyes have been opened and I don't want to retract

The door has never been closed even when I thought hope was lost
I had only to receive the Gift that was given me at no cost

What I thought was living was just existing in strife
Now I'm living the gift God has given me in this life

Now I can look inside me and like what I feel
My existing world is open to possibilities and so, I kneel

I don't pray for the things that I thought I needed
Like, "please get me out of this one God", I pleaded

I pray that others can receive this most important gift
But not every soul recognizes their blessings in this

Not every soul knows that there is hope in the lesson
Because they cannot see beyond the destructive direction

So I continue to reach out and move into my position
Be ready for the work needed for whatever season

I don't know what's ahead for me, but I do know this
I will not take for granted, nor turn my back on,
THIS MOST IMPORTANT GIFT!
