How to make a great sandwich

Everyone who has been hungry at some time and has wanted a quick meal will already know how to make a great sandwich. A great sandwich when you are hungry and in a hurry is one where the bread hasn't as yet gone moldy and the filling is anything in the refrigerator that hasn't hasn't as yet grown a fungus. If you are lucky you have fresh bread and filling where say for example, ham, still has its original smell and color.

Great sandwiches are not only a healthy alternative to fried food but also taste good if made fresh with fresh ingredients. One problem in making a great sandwich is maintaining that freshness if you only use a small portion of the various components. A carrot , tomato , lettuce and block of cheese when sliced is enough to make an extraordinary amount of filings for a great sandwich. If you buy six bread rolls for the economy involved with bulk purchase then you have the problem of what to do with the remaining five rolls if you only want to make one great sandwich.

Some enterprising fellow who apparently likes riding trains ,especially on the subway, came up with the idea that you could make a fortune by selling really nothing more than a ham and salad roll to people who wanted an alternative to fried food and were concerned about their health. To make it appear to be nothing more than just a ham and salad roll he came up with fresh baked rolls of various flavors not available anywhere else and a full range of fresh ingredients that you select yourself as the roll is prepared. The roll is fresh and the ingredients are fresh daily, hopefully, so that stale items and long periods of storage should under no circumstances be tolerated . In any case if you suspect that the rolls haven't been baked fresh or the ingredients haven't been thrown out at the end of each day you can report it to the various health authorities .

If you have a deep freezer or there is a freezer compartment attached to your refrigerator then you could always store the other five bread rolls for later use if you were only making the one great sandwich .Similarly if you had a set of good plastic storage containers you could also store left over grated cheese, carrot, sliced lettuce and tomato along with any other ingredients not entirely used. The problem is that later on it is not quite the same if you want to make another sandwich. A truly great sandwich is one that is absolutely fresh with a bread roll that is different to your usual fare.

Even if you were content with a common bread roll you cannot take the refrigerator with you every time you are out . It is so much nicer though if you want a great sandwich and one with fresh ingredients to have it made for you in front of you with that flavored roll that seems to be the something special you are seeking. Just make sure it is all fresh.

I have to emphasize the word ,fresh. After all freshness is the key to a great sandwich and you are paying enough to expect just that. If your bread roll is stale , no matter what place you are at , complain. If the fillings are stale , no matter what place you are at, complain.

If nothing is done report the establishment to the health authorities and broadcast the quality of not only the sandwich but also the poor service , to everyone who will listen to you. They above all would know what a great sandwich should resemble. They should know too the disappointment of biting into a lousy stale sandwich and the cost involved when it happens.
