If you know an artist in need of a great gift, why not try a wonderful gift basket? Gift baskets are popular items because they contain a variety of goods, making it more likely at least one of the presents will be adored.
However, when using the term "artist", there are tons of different crafts included. It's important to know exactly *what kind* of artist the person is. Do they paint, draw, sew, or throw pottery? Are they a novice at the art, or are they a seasoned expert? The answers to these questions will help guide you to the right kind of items to include in the basket.
To create the actual gift basket, the first thing you need, of course, is a basket! If it's for an artist, make sure to get a really beautiful basket, they're the type of person who will really notice and appreciate it. Try to find a basket that will useful in storing the supplies for that artists particular work. Line the basket with a pretty filler. You can use fabric, tissue paper, ribbons, beads, nuts, candies, or raffe.
Most crafts can use some sketching paper and pencils. Painting, fashion designing, drawing, knitting, or pottery throwing can all benefit from some paper to make notes and draw pictures on. Even a potter can find paper useful for comparing color combinations for glazing. So the first basic staple in the gift basket is sketching paper and pencils, because they're great for all artists.
PAINTING
- If the artist is a painter, there is one sure-fire perfect gift, brushes! As a painter, let me tell you, we run thru brushes like a wildfire thru dry grass. All painters, but especially oil painters, need quality brushes in every size. Make sure to buy the correct brush for the correct medium. Some brushes can be used for acrylics, oils, and watercolors. But most are specific to the paint type.
- Basic colors in a quality paint are always appreciated. White, yellow, green, and blue always come in useful. Black and red tend to last forever, and most painters have plenty of those two colors already. Again, make sure to know the type of painting the artist does, water paint is very different from oil.
- Easels and travel easels are very useful to any painter, as is a paint case. Most artist paint cases are large, heavy wood carrying compartments that resemble a briefcase. This keeps the paints from getting squished and the brushes from getting their bristles flattened.
DRAWING
- If the artist is into drawing, try some really high quality drawing paper
