To create the actual gift basket, the first thing you need, of course, is a basket! PAINTING

All painters, but especially oil painters, need quality brushes in every size. Make sure to buy the correct brush for the correct medium. Some brushes can be used for acrylics, oils, and watercolors. But most are specific to the paint type.

- Basic colors in a quality paint are always appreciated. White, yellow, green, and blue always come in useful. Black and red tend to last forever, and most painters have plenty of those two colors already. Again, make sure to know the type of painting the artist does, water paint is very different from oil.

- Easels and travel easels are very useful to any painter, as is a paint case. Most artist paint cases are large, heavy wood carrying compartments that resemble a briefcase. This keeps the paints from getting squished and the brushes from getting their bristles flattened.
