There really is a true man of your dreams out there, but he probably won't come in the package you always anticipated. Almost every woman in the world envisions a tall, muscular man with great hair as her dream man, but more than likely, the real man of our dreams will look more like Kevin James than George Clooney (no offense, Kevin). Sometimes we let the man of our dreams pass us by because we're so caught up in the package he's wrapped up in, instead of the heart inside.
I'm happy to say that I've been married to the man of my dreams for almost twenty-eight years. He doesn't look like anyone I ever imagined myself married to back in the days when I was still composing my dream-man-list, and he certainly isn't as wealthy as the guy I was "supposed" to marry, but what the hay? Our twenty-eight year record speaks for itself. Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. My Micky Rooney looks like Tom Selleck to me.
Once I'd accepted the fact that it was okay for my dream guy to have a rounded waistline and thinning hair, I found that the real inner qualities I'd always longed for were still there. Even Brad Pitt's good looks are fading with time (sorry, Brad). It's what in the heart of a man that remains with us until the end.
What every girl really wants is faithful, committed, unconditional love. We want a man who can support our goals, share our dreams and interests, make us laugh and keep us happy. We want him to be a good provider, with a good strong work ethic-someone who knows what he wants and how to achieve it without sacrificing his family role. We all want to marry our best friend-our soulmate that we have a spiritual connection with.
Perhaps above all else, we want a man who loves the inner beauty inside each of us. We want a man who will still find us just as beautiful and desirable when we have gained those unwanted pounds and turned wrinkled and gray. We want a man who will always think we're the sexiest woman alive, even after breast cancer. That's the dream man I married, and I'm certain God made lots more just like him.
