Poetry: The masks we wear

by Diane Mackenzie

Created on: January 19, 2008

Living the good life...paid for with plastic,
Faux castle full of luxurious things,
Store-bought happiness, fake and fantastic.
NASCAR dad kings and their soccer-mom queens.
Drive a red Hummer to show their support,
Dollar store magnet of red, white and blue.
For soldiers who fight a televised war,
Watch it unfold on a plasma screen tube.
Breast augmentation and a Botox smile,
Endless erections - Viagra induced,
Mammary loss and libido denial,
Synthetic sex life so far from the truth.
Plasticine people who never get wet,
Sailing the seas on an ocean of debt.
