There are so many items an artist may love to receive in a gift basket. Some Artists will be into all sorts of arts and crafts, however, if the recipient is specializing in one particular field it makes sense to buy what they will need, want and use. So, firstly, research the recipient to discover just what they are into. Of course, many artists will love anything from this field and treasure it much more than ordinary day to day and mundane gifts.
The gift basket itself could be something which is a little quirky and different. I am sure that if you shop around you will find something which will be perfect. Perhaps something handmade will look better than most shop bought baskets. I am lucky that in my City there is a great specialist art store. Having said that though, it can be a little pricey. There are many of the smaller items, that will make up your gift basket, on sale from more reasonably priced stores.
Here are some ideas of what you could put into a gift basket:
-Various pencils, such as coloured ones, as well as traditional blacks. Of course an eraser helps.
-Chalks in a variety of pastel colours.
-Good brushes can cost a fortune but perhaps one or two really good brushes in different sizes.
-A pair of small scissors and a craft knife.
-A box of charcoals.
-A selection of water colour individual paints.
-Individual pots of poster paints.
-An attractive pot to stand brushes and the like in, or a nice little box in which to keep pencils and other paraphernalia.
-Small sketch pads can be useful but of course it depends how big your gift basket is. If it is big enough, a pad of good watercolour paper may be a nice addition, or even a small canvas.
-A selection of oil paints and a few acrylics. These could have a selection of palette knives.
-Glass paints are unusual and interesting.
-A small amount of modelling clay might be appreciated.
-A different slant on a gift basket for an artist could be for someone who paints outdoors. A nice carrying basket could hold a selection of suitable outdoor clothes which may be needed.
-If the artist uses material in their work the basket could be padded out with velvet, silk or whatever they use. Similarly it could be lined with crepe paper or something similar.
Overall just have a good look around the shops before you purchase anything. There are lots of items which an artist may appreciate. A relative of mine who was into making wacky sculptures wanted a particular hammer and pliers. This is why it would be best to check out exactly what the artist is interested in before purchasing any goods. However the old faithfuls such as drawing and painting implements, and items such as paints and paper will usually always be appreciated.
