Coping with food intolerance and allergies

Food intolerance often develops due to an immature or ineffective digestive system. This inability to digest foods creates havoc on our bodies; allowing undigested food particles to leak from the intestinal wall into the blood stream. Foods which normally would not affect us now become harmful, and our bodies begin to fight with the offending food.

For most of us, coping with food intolerance/allergies means staying away from that food or foods. For those of us who are highly sensitive, coping becomes an everyday battle. Our first plan of attack is to focus on our digestive systems to help it along. The following steps will ease some of the frustrations of food intolerance.

CLEAN HOUSE:
By cleaning house, we get rid of the sludge of undigested food, parasites, and medications which have accumulated in our intestinal tract. To do spring cleaning, there are all kinds of "detox" preparations and programs which help to cleanse and rid the body of unwanted material. Preparations can be found in any drug store or health food store. I have tried many and finally found a "greens and detox" formula which has helped me to replenish my body with good live supplementation; at the same time getting rid of undesirable waste through gentle elimination.

HARBOR GOOD INTESTINAL FLORA:
This is what lives in your digestive and intestinal tract. Both good and bad bacteria flourish to digest your foods. If good live foods are consumed, this feeds good bacteria. If sugars are eaten on a frequent basis, the bad bacteria love to feed off this kind of environment and create health problems such as Candida. That's why the overuse of antibiotics has been deleterious to our health because they kill off good bacteria while trying to get rid of the bad.

To address the good intestinal flora, we can take good bacteria in the form of lacto-bacillis, acidolphilus, or probiotics in yogurt. Acidophilus can be purchased in refrigerated live capsules, as freeze-dried, or in tablet form. Several billion units would be the most effective taken daily. Foul-smelling flatulence is a good indication that bad bacteria is proliferating over the good.

EAT LIVE FOODS:
Live foods are fresh, raw, and organic foods which have not been doctored by processing, pasteurizing, nor irradiating. Foods which do not contain additives, preservatives, and coloring are best. Beware of packaged foods which boasts of fortification by adding extra vitamins and minerals. These foods
