An adage goes, the best learner is the self-learner. It is true in the field of computer. You have learn yourself how to maintain a computer. Or else you may end up calling for computer service and paying a high amount at the end of the month.

Learning the maintenance is a gradual process and can not be learned in a short span of time.

You must first learn the basics of maintaining the computer by searching Google or Yahoo. This will do for a while. But after some time, you need to take more care of your computer and prevent it from facing any trouble.

One of the most important thing is that you subscribe to any PC magazine and read them every month. Try to learn even one thing from it. Search the daily newspaper for small tips and tricks. In the end of the day, they prove useful.

If you face trouble with your computer and call for service, try to see what they do (if they solve the problem sitting in your house). In 1999, when I got my first computer, I faced many troubles and did not know how to maintain a computer. Many at times the sound was disabled or the Windows crashed etc. I called for service and that person worked sitting in my house. I learned a lot from him though he did not tell me anything. I just learned how the problems are solved.

There are books available in the market which teach the maintenance of the computer. You can read them.

Experiment with the problem and try to solve it yourself. At first, try to understand the problem then go for solution. Don't call for service at once.

By that time, I did not use internet (did not know what internet is). But when I learned internet, I searched for advance tips and tricks for the maintenance the computer. You should try this method as I found it very useful.

You should prepare your mind. If a problem arises, you should think in your mind first what is the cause? If the TASKBAR is removed from its place from bottom to top, you try to drag that to the bottom. This is common sense. Don't think of calling the service whenever a problem arises.

If a problem is out of your control, try to search the net for the solution. If not found, ask any friend about it.

Computer maintenance is very easy. Like you eat, change clothes, bath, sleep and do other routine work, computer maintenance will be a regular task for you. You will even don't realize that you are taking care of your PC.
