against known spyware re-infiltrating your PC. However, you have to check for updates manually. It also offers you an optional utility called Teatime when you install: this warns you when a program wants to change your registry, something that viruses and other malware programs often do. Some people love this feature, others hate it because it pops up even when you're doing a valid install.

The free AVG Anti-Spyware program doesn't block incoming spyware. For this, you must upgrade to the paid option. However, the free program is so good, it's worth getting the paid one.

SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.c om/spywareblaster.html) is a very popular spyware blocker and it's free for personal use, though donations are welcome. It only blocks; it does not scan or remove existing spyware. It's a more sophisticated version of Spybot's Immunize, in that it allows to select what you want to block. It also offers a System Snapshot: essentially a backup of important system settings in case malware corrupts them.

Anti-spyware software is as important as anti-virus if you value your privacy and the security of your PC. It doesn't have to cost you anything except the time it takes to download and install! And you can avoid the sharks and go surfing in safe waters.
