Old age sneaks up on us, but not without warning. We know we're getting older and we know we can't effortlessly do what we once were able to do. Still, it's a smack in the face when the drivers license isn't renewed or when the aches and pains make getting around very difficult. Occasional help may be enough to enjoy a high level of independent living.
Injury or illness doesn't give any warning; if serious enough, it thrusts its victim into a sudden life changing existence that depends greatly upon the service of others in order to make it through a simple day. Whether short term or long term, in home or in hospital or nursing home, the assistance required in these circumstances is usually 24/7.
Some folks face an ordeal that is often more dreaded than any physical challenge when the mind stops connecting with reality and they are gradually forced into a world of utter chaos and confusion.
