When it comes to ice skating and your first time attempting to ice skate I hope your not afraid to fall. No matter what you can not be afraid to fall on your bottom it will happen from time to time until you get used to being on the ice and skating on it. It is hard enough to walk wearing ice skates until you get used to them never mind actually skating on them. You may want to try stretching your legs do a couple of squats warm up first. Walk around on the rubber mat in the rink for awhile get your feet used to the skates. What ever you do not take your skates on regular pavement you can chunk up and damage your blades and that can cause you to have a rough skating experience. If you have someone brave enough to hold your hand and skate with you do so but I would strongly advise you skate next to the wall along with your partner. The reason I am telling you or advising you to skate by the wall is to prevent yourself from blocking other skaters who know what they are doing already and causing other people to possibly fall down along with your self. It's like riding a bike your going to fall a few times before you get the hang of it. Remember warm up first get you muscles nice and relaxed do not be tense up. If you have ever slipped on ice before that is kind of what it is like getting on the ice for the first time only the skates if used properly will prevent you from taking a fall better then a pair of shoes. Do not get onto the ice to fast hold on to the wall when you start out or partner and take it slow by slightly pushing with one foot out wards and then the other you will know by feeling if the ride is going smooth. You will want to glide from side to side do not lean to much forward or back wards this can cause you to be off balanced if done to aggressively. Do not worry about falling do hat I do and go for the fall on your bottom technique that way doesn't really seem to hurt. You might want to wait until the ice has been re-iced before you go on the ice so it's nice and smooth and not chunked or bumpy yet. Look for any signs with rules and safety tips at any rink and follow those guide lines. With anything remember safety first for your self and for others . Some rinks also offer classes for beginners as well so you may want to check for information on what rinks offer you this before picking a rink to start skating at.
