Cake decorating as an art form

by Monster

Like a paint brush or pencil, a piping bag is like an extension of my fingers. Squeezing the icing out in intricate and beautiful patterns, and creating a cake that is not only edible - but a wonderful piece of art. You are only limited by the imagination and creativity that you hold in your hands. The cake is your canvas - and you are free to paint.

The process of cake decorating is long and tiring at times - much the same as creating a sculpture. You spend hours on the base of your project, and many more hours on the details. You carefully craft every line, dot, flower, petal, fruit - as well as every last detail. You put your heart and your soul into every line piped by the sweet icing inside.

Every minute spent is satisfying. And though it may take long to get it right, it is worth every second when gazing upon your final piece.

Words cannot express how beautiful it looks - and words had nothing to do with how it came to be. It was your hands and your fingers that did all the work. Such passion and creativity cannot be masked.

Somebody whom of which creates such a piece should be named an artist. And they are.

When I think of cake decorating, I don't think of brightly colored sprinkles, plastic toys and waxy icing. I don't think of a cake you buy from the grocery store.

A true artist, in any form - whether they paint, draw, sketch, sculpt, or create a cake can design, build, and create something that not only gives you a glimpse of something wonderful, but can make you stop flat in your tracks and stare at it in awe - when somebody looks at a cake and doesn't want to take the first slice, you know it's beautiful.

This art-form goes beyond any teaching books and courses. When you can create something more beautiful than that in any book, you know that the talent lies within you. You don't need to go to cake decorating school or spend ridiculous amounts of money on courses. All you need is the power from within to create, and a few piping bags, tips, icing, and a book. If you have enough passion to experiment with it and try to get it right, chances are that you will be successful.

Like Michael Angelo's David or Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, a cake is in the same category. It is a work of art, and you are the artist creating it.
