I lived in Miami for twenty five years and even in the steamy heat of a summer afternoon, I loved it. I'd have my swimsuit and beach bag handy and after work, which was adequately air conditioned, by the way, I'd hit the beach and swim off the days tension. But when you're on vacation, it's even better. The trade winds are natures way of cooling you off so you can enjoy the islands treasures. And prices are cheaper in the Caribbean during the summer months. You can avoid the crowds at even the most popular resort. The locals are friendlier and have more time to spend with you, telling you about the island and local hangouts. There's plenty of ways to cool off too. Like sitting under a palm tree with a icy drink, relaxing and watching nature's beauty. Or take a dip in the hotel's pool, then hit the spa for a rejuvenating massage. Sight see in the early part of the day to stay cool, and then lunch oceanside with a breeze blowing through your hair while watching the cruise ships pull in. Snorkel and discover a world you never knew existed. You'll get great deals on renting snorkeling equipment, boat rides, and local delicacies. Or find an air conditioned restaurant overlooking the ocean and daydream about living in paradise. You'll be surprised that after a day or two, you don't really need air conditioning and your body will get used to the climate.
I guess you can say, I love the tropical heat and will always jump at the chance to go to an island...any time of the year. While shopping in open-aired market in the Virgin Islands, I found awesome deals, and when I felt parched,I found a cozy little Bistro harbor side and enjoyed a icy cold beer and the best Caribbean lobster I ever had. At a reasonable summertime bargain price! The evenings are perfect for a sunset cruise. Wearing sunscreen and a skimpy dress while the salty scent of the ocean lulls me into a perfect sense of satisfaction. This is my idea of heaven. The night life doesn't stop in the summer. You'll find out door clubs spilling out with island music and everyone dancing to the tropical beat without worrying about the heat. I feel exotic when I'm on an island, donning my Caribbean garb and braided hair, without a care in the world. Getting away from everyday life and stress, you bet I'll go! It may not be for everyone, but as I'm writing this, I'm thinking about that tropical heat, the sweet smell of jasmine, and I'm longing for the feeling of the sun on my skin and the sweat trickling down my back...that's what gets me through these cold New England days.
