Advantages of sage tea

Sage tea, just the name gives the impression of something green, earthy, and wise. The advantages of sage tea are many, and anyone who is interested in homeopathy and herbal remedies is advised to give it a try for any of it's varied uses.

Sage has been used for thousands of years for both culinary and medicinal purposes. Chemicals in sage include alpha- and beta-thujone, camphor, and cineole and also rosmarinic acid, tannins, and flavonoids. The oils in sage have antiseptic, astringent, and irritant properties.

To make a tea take about 2-3 Tbsp of crumbled, dried sage leaf and add about 2/3 - 1 cup boiling water. Cover and steep for about 10 minutes, strain into a cup. Honey and fresh lemon juice can beadded for flavor and added benefits. This tea can be used hot or cold, however since the benefits of sage tea differ in both forms of the tea, it is important to use the tea appropriately to gain it's full benefits.

Soak a facecloth in hot sage tea and apply to your forehead to relieve a tension headache, or on the abdomen to relieve stomach cramps. This can also be applied to sore and aching joints.

Sage tea, either hot or cold can and should be drunk 2-4 times a day to gain it's full benefits.

Sage is known as a diaphoretic herb, which means it promotes perspiration and elimination of fluids. This quality is good for colds and flu as it helps you to expectorate and sweat out toxins when drunk as a hot tea.

Cold sage tea helps to stop diarrhea.

Because it contains properties to dry up excess body fluids, cold sage tea is good for night sweats and to aid in drying your milk up when you are weaning your child from breast milk.

Take a facecloth and soak it in cold sage tea and apply to cuts and sores to speed the healing process.

For nasal, lung and sinus congestion, steep sage tea in a bowl and put a towel over your head and inhale the steam from the bowl of tea. You can even use the strained tea in a vaporizer or add it to your bath for the same effect.

If you have sore gums, or sores on the mouth or tongue use sage tea as a mouth rinse 3 times a day.

If you have a sore throat or tonsillitis gargle with hot sage tea 3 times a day.

Hot sage tea is good for the delirium that comes with fevers and also for nervous excitement.

Sage tea is also believed to be useful in fighting liver and kidney problems.

As you can see, this tea has many beneficial properties and obviously should be stocked in every home that enjoys the use of herbal medicines.

Always remember to store your herbs in a cool, dark place as heat and light can destroy essential oils and water down their useful properties.

If you haven't already tried sage tea for it's healing properties I recommend you go out and buy some and steep yourself a cup and try it either plain or with honey and lemon as a cheap, easy, and useful home-remedy for many common ailments.
