Reflections on the starving artist

rapper can become very rich and famous, starting from the misery and violent environment of his "black ghetto", although very ignorant about music, (and not only) and/or scarce in singing.
These "artists" become rich and famous even though they make their best (or their worst) to waste it with excessive luxury, drugs and alcohol abuse and sentimental "scandals", good to fill the gossip magazines and even the ordinary chronicle, like

O. J. Simpson, Michael Jackson, Courtney Love, Boy George and many others.

Hence, I notice we have passed from an extreme to another today; from the misery of the past, borne by artists with all their patience and passion for art, to the tons of money coming from direct sales, advertisement, royalties and prizes.

I'm sure that Mozart, if he lived today as the immense genius of music he was, would be a great rock-star, extremely innovative, rich and famous like Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Freddy Mercury, the U-2, and all the other music stars, the main stylists, architects, designers, writers and many, many others, although many of them (not those I've just quoted!) are surely not geniuses.

Maybe Mozart would neither have died young as he did, for a disease that would be easily curable today or, if his destiny had been to die young in any case, he wouldn't have been buried like a waste in an anonymous mass grave, but in a dignified grave that his fans could visit everyday, as it happens for Jim Morrison in Paris or for Elvis Presley in Memphis, US.
