If you are at all interested in internet marketing, you'll no doubt have heard people talking about monetizing their website to earn more money.

This can include the following tactics:

+ using Google Adsense
+ using affiliate links in articles
+ displaying banners which lead into affiliate sites
+ advertising promotions for products which net you a share of any sales made

The key to success is not only in finding the best affiliate programs around, but in finding ones that are relevant to your site. For example, if I have a site dedicated to writing then it makes sense to find affiliate products which are also dedicated to writing.

Furthermore, the closer your affliate products are to your specific area of interest the better. If my website concentrated on article writing specifically, I wouldn't offer a novel writing program, no matter how good it was - not unless I expanded my site to include novel writing as a subject.

So you see, getting your website into profit is much easier if you do your homework and find the most appropriate affiliate programs available. It's all about understanding the needs of your customers and visitors, and servicing those needs as best you can.

Sites like Commission Junction are excellent for this as they have a wealth of companies and opportunities to use, and you can be a member of several affiliate schemes via this one site. All your earnings go into one central pot, making it easy to reach the payment threshold and get paid (the payment threshold is low here anyway, which is one of the reasons I like it so much). They are quick payers, big on providing detailed information and whatever the subject of your site you are bound to find lots of possibilities for monetizing it through here alone.

It's also worth joining Squidoo and building some pages (or lenses) to promote your website, as they are capable of driving a lot of traffic from the search engines towards your site. You can also monetize your lenses to earn even more money, so it can be a wonderful double whammy.

Above all, look on monetizing your site as a long term prospect. Try things, see what works, ditch what doesn't and run with what does.

And enjoy the process! Get into profit but enjoy it en route - you'll do even better.
