Men often joke that when they get married, all the women that never had anything to do with them start falling out of the sky into their laps. Their wedding ring becomes a chic magnet. Why is this? Some say it is the phenomenon of what that ring represents. The woman, the potential home wrecker, sees it not as a symbol of a sacred and intimate lifelong bond, but the symbol of a man who 1) has the capacity for monogamous love (which she finds attractive, yet will destroy if successful in her attempts to get him) for the woman of his affections, 2) has various qualities that would place him under the heading of "stable" such as a career, a home (mortgage) and other familial material possessions, perhaps also children (another thing women find attractive, yet would destroy/alter/damage greatly if the were successful in their attempt to turn him).
A married also carries a pretty hefty, if not eroding taboo of forbidden fruit. There is also the challenge aspect of it all. A woman who turns a man away from a happily married life, white picket fence, kids and all, well she now has a newfound sense of pride, if not of a slanted type, at least some sense of self worth in her appearance, abilities, values, what have you. The acquisition of the harder prizes often promise the deeper wells of satisfaction.
Not to be ignored though are the harsh consequences. Not only is there the inevitable and poetic retribution that is best summed up in: "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned," but you have children to consider, perhaps the woman's own family, social circle, etc that may now view her in a less than flattering light.
But what is usually the most insidious of all the nasty side effects of such a course are the newer feelings of insecurity. Oftentimes the woman who becomes emboldened with the thrill of the conquest, will succumb to wondering when the man who was such a catch will turn his head again, after all, he's now proven he can be unfaithful.
It is a no-win situation.
