Assessing the future of the Arab-Israeli conflict

for more than 1400 years Islamic ruled the Middle East.

The existence of a democratic nation in their midst with the strength to resist, and who allow freedom of religion is intolerable. A successful democratic nation in which people enjoy freedom of religion and generally live in comfort compared to impoverish conditions suffered by most living in bordering Arab nations is an intolerable threat to the religious authorities. They are fully aware that being so rich in oil reserves should serve to provide better living conditions for their people and the only way they can hold onto power, wealth and privilege is to focus the misery of their people somewhere else. Blaming Israel for all their collective misery is a perfect solution with no possible resolution unless the masses wake up and realise what is going on.

Without some form of significant shift in power the Arab-Israeli conflict will continue. It is not possible to mediate because it is simply not in the interests of one side to concede. Arab nations consider Israel stole lands, forgetting of course that invasions of centuries before are the reason most exist today. Religious authorities are threatened by a successful democratic nation because it demonstrates clearly the advantages of freedom. Freedom of choice and of religion lifts restrictions that serve to choke innovation and perpetuate a miserable lifestyle of endless poverty.

Who can know what will change once oil runs out in the Middle East, or if Iran completes its quest for atomic weapons of mass destruction. That Israel will retaliate with an even more deadly force is without question. The current generation of disaffected Palestinians are more radicalised than ever before and surrounding Arab nations seem determined to continue hostilities by proxy against Israel. One thing is clear: If Israel were to disappear right now there is little chance war and destruction will ever abate in the Middle East.
