I am the perfect parent
I just put my daughter on the bus to school. I grab a cup of tea and plan my day. Most days start in a frenzy as my 7 year old with the 16 year old attitude decides to try my patience for the millionth time. Why do I even bother talking, because I feel that I am talking to a wall. Most conversations are in one word syllables. "Lunch box?" she asks. "Book bag", I reply as she is already shouting out the next questions.
I keep thinking, I am the perfect parent. What mother would do half the things I do if she wasn't perfect?
What does the perfect mom do?
She runs her daughter to every dance class and competition. She sits there for the 3 hours or more, waiting patiently for class to end while she thinks about all the chores left undone at home.
When her daughter want the newest webkinz, she stands in line at the local hallmark in the rain waiting for the new shipment to arrive, only to find out that she is a day late.
She willing gives up her shows so that her daughter can watch a Hannah Montana marathon on the Disney channel and unknowingly misses the soap opera cliffhanger where we find out who is the baby's daddy.
She buys the make up case because her daughter really, really wants it, only to find the make up all over her couch and her daughter covered in it, looking like Casper the friendly ghost.
She makes waffles for breakfast and her daughter turns around and tells her she is "Not in the mood" for waffles, as she leaves the room in a huff, making her feel like the house maid.
She goes shopping and buys her daughter new clothes and shoes, only to bring them home and have her daughter state, "Where is the purse and belt to go with them?"
She tucks her in at night with strong feelings of love for this precious child, her gift from God, only to be told to make sure she gets her up on time as she has plans tomorrow.
So as I reminisce about what it takes to be a perfect mother, I think about all I have to go through to do my job as a mom. Some days you feel you are not appreciated but there are times that your daughter will actually surprise you and tell you that she loves you., Those three little words, I love you, make everything worth it. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
