Movie reviews: Tideland

This story is about a little girl with a lot of stuff in her life that a 7 year old should not have. Her daddy is a heroin addict and her mom died and was a really bad alcoholic. When her mother died her dad did not want get caught with drugs and so they packed up their stuff and moved to Tide Land. She moved into a house where her grandmother lived. The house was full of mold, old mashed up beer bottles, and graffiti everywhere. The girl's grandmother died before she was even born.

Every night her dad would have the girl get the needle filled with heroin ready. They called it a vacation for her father. But one night her dad overdosed and before he died his daughter told him not to go on a long vacation this time. The little girl did not want to except that her dad was dead but so she still took care of him even though he was dead. She fed him and covered him up at night with a blanket. This story pretty much says that even though things go wrong and you don't want to accept things that happen, you some times have to and this little girl does not cry over anything that happens to her. She deals with it and accepts the fact that her father died, but she still takes care of him.

Though this movie is sad. You can take away a message that if you accept the things that you cannot change, you can make it through life. Even though your parents are not there, you can still can be an individual who strives to do the right thing. Never give up hope. Live your life day by day and do the things that you know is right and you will be just fine. Listen to the adults in your life and if you cannot change the situation that you are in accept it and life will be good. Listen to your parents while they are still around because you don't know when they will be taken from you. (Danielle Ross: Student of Mr. Rainwater)
