Elections 2008: Response to Ann Coulter's attack on Mike Huckabee

This is being posted in response to Ann Coulter's most recent article, "The Elephant in the Room," to address her negative comments (and cheap shot) against Mike Huckabee.

Dear Ann,

I have to say that I am disappointed in the unfounded bias you have demonstrated against Mike Huckabee. From one Christian to another, I do not see how you can say that Mitt Romney is our strongest candidate when he has made the round trip from Pro-abortion to Pro-Life twice in the last two years. Not to mention his (and your) deliberate distortions of Mike Huckabee's record using obscure quotes and surface-level facts.

Also, I do not understand how you believe we can fight and win the War on Terror without getting back in touch with this nation's true Heritage and God's role in it. After all, it is a religious war to the Islamic Fundamentalists. Our nation's Christian history is the reason why. Mike Huckabee has been the only candidate who has accurately represented that heritage.

Like you, I am disappointed in our choices for this 2008 election. I agree with you that we should be talking about Duncan Hunter being our nominee. However, Hunter did not take as a candidate. It is a much further fall from Hunter to Romney than it is to Huckabee.

I also agree with you that conservatives need to do their research. That includes you. I have searched for weeks for evidence of Huckabee's initiatives, policies and platforms that show him to be the "liberals favorite Republican," as you call him. As I search, all I see is the recitation of the same quotes over and over, such as Phyllis Schlafly's widely-publicized attack, and cheap shots about Huckabee's son. That does not constitute evidence.

That comment you wrote about Huckabee's son is particularly disheartening. I normally have great respect for you, not only for your views, but for the sharp and witty way you put them forward. To see you sink to the level that you would use the actions of Huckabee's son when he was in his late-teens against Huckabee is an indication of an emotional involvement that is inexplicable for you. You are sounding like a liberal - or at least resorting to their tactics. Since when did it become honorable to use family dysfunctions and tragedies in an effort to discredit their campaign? What a very stupid and insensitive thing to say. I suppose it would be fair game for me to point out that this is probably why you are not married?

The fact is that Huckabee was a conservative governor of a very democrat-dominated state,
