When you're looking for warmer weather, you have to do what the birds do- go south. There are a number of warm and inexpensive vacation spots in the US, but listed below are some of the most popular.

Florida:

The Sunshine State is completely surrounded by spectacular beeches and they are absolutely free. Simply roll out the beach towel, slap on a little sunscreen and soak up some of that wonderful Florida sunshine. Sit back and listen to the seagulls and the soft rolling waves of the ocean, not giving a second thought to the frigid cold you left behind.

But there is more to Florida than beautiful beaches such as swimming, fishing, snorkeling, picnicking and much more. If you're around the Tampa area, visit the Lowry Park Zoo. It's very inexpensive and offers a cute little petting zoo for the kids.

Be sure to take in some of the nightlife at Florida's Ybor City in Tampa. Dine at one their many fabulous Greek restaurants or meander along the sidewalks and check out the local drinking establishments.

Texas:

The longhorn state offers several sunny beaches and the hotel and motel accommodations are very affordable. If you like the western atmosphere, you'll love the nightlife in Texas. They party hardy, complete with cowboy hats, boots and mechanical bulls.

There are several restaurants featuring western and Mexican cuisine. So if you like it hot & spicy, head on down to Texas. The beaches are free and the souvenir shops are cheap, compared to most places, and filled with shells and gift items. While you're there, ask them about their wild Jackalopes!

South Carolina:

Along with Myrtle Beach, there's plenty to do in the warm and cozy state of South Carolina. They have some very nice scenery and the southern style cooking is excellent. The locals are extremely friendly and there is no other place that offers the kind of hospitality you'll find in South Carolina.

The prices are very reasonable, even in their gift shops where you can get anything from souvenirs to postcards. Check out the rustic, charming old homes of South Carolina and soak up some of the local color. Southern hospitality runs high in South Carolina where you're treated like family.

Georgia:

There are many areas in the South that offer a lot for very little. If you're traveling through Atlanta, check out Grants Park Zoo. Say hello to Wiliby, their huge gorilla. While you're there, stop in and see the popular Cyclorama, featuring scenes from the civil war. Further down the road is Stone Mountain where the family can spend the whole day and still not take it all in.

Therefore, if you want a cheap, warm vacation, follow the birds and go south. Lie on a beach and leave your cares behind. Vacationing in the south doesn't cost an arm and a leg and it is quite possible that you just might end up having the time of your life.
