Networking basics for new small business owners

You've started your own business and you are all set to go! You are passionate about what you do and want the world to know about your product or service. Why is it that others don't seem to be as excited about your new business as you are? Don't get discouraged! It takes hard work and time to get your name out there.

Networking is one of the best ways to get noticed. There are many types of networking groups out there. Some of them can be very expensive and require a lot of commitment. The best way to start getting your feet wet in the networking arena is to attend many types of networking groups as a guest. This will give you an idea of what type of networking group is the best fit for you.

If you find that there isn't a group out there that you feel comfortable with, then start your own! It's very easy to do and this is a sure fire way of creating a networking atmosphere that is best suited to you. There are many free online advertising sites where you can advertise your networking group and it won't cost you anything but your time. You'd be surprised at how quickly you will get responses from other like-minded small business owners.

One of the best services that you can offer small business owners is a free business networking group. Not only will you entice a lot more business owners to your group but it shows that you are not in it to make money you are there to lend your support. To cover costs of beverages and/or snacks you can run a 50/50 draw and that way someone goes home a winner and you have your costs covered. It is also very easy to get guest speakers who are experts in the field of networking or running small businesses. They are only to happy to give their time as it gives them exposure as well in return.

Remember never go into any networking situation with high expectations of what you can get from the group. Go into it with the philosophy of "how can I help?" When you have the pure intent of wanting to help others it will come back to you ten-fold!
