Why people shun spirituality

People shun spirituality because for the most part, spirituality is subjective, and not everyone experiences spirituality in the same manner; therefore, it may only appear that most people are shunning spirituality, when in fact, perhaps some are not able to access their spiritual nature as someone who is born with more capacity for spiritual advancement.

This idea may not appeal to everybody, mainly because we've been taught that every person is born a "blank slate." The truth is, just like some are born with more aptitude for art, music, or science, the same goes for emotional and spiritual experience. Some people are more psychic than others, for example. When referring to the emotional and spiritual experiences, some people may suffer from a lack of feeling when compared to others. At the total extreme, some people, like sociopaths, suffer from a complete lack of empathy, love, and conscience. Everybody is different.

So, when we talk about people shunning spirituality, the subjectiveness makes it very difficult to determine exactly what a person may be experiencing. It is very difficult to know the thoughts of others for the most part.

Despite this truth, it is also verifiable that some people, probably a small majority, do appear to shun spirituality altogether. I personally have only known a few people like this. They usually tend to be more of scientific bent and don't believe in all that "hocus pocus" and "primitive" belief. This is what I have often heard them claim. People like this also tend to not have many psychic abilities. Most of them have never seen ghosts, when in fact, most people I know who have seen ghosts and are very psychic, tend to be very strong when it comes to their spiritual beliefs or just their spirituality, per se.

I think spirituality and one's capacity for such a nebulous state is going to eventually be based on experience. If one does not have an ear for music, if one cannot play a tune well, then one has no musical talent and the piano is becomes a poor vehicle for musical expression and music. And if someone has not had many spiritual experiences to begin with, if someone has not ever felt an inclination to spirituality, or is impoverished in their spiritual state to begin with, that person will naturally not seek spirituality.
