THE FUTURE FOR CHINESE WORKERS
At this stage, I can only see business becoming more aware of the conditions of the workers in China. If business addressed the issue from the beginning of the process, it would demand initiative to be taken on behalf of the business owners in China.
Making the public more aware of the safety issues faced by Chinese workers is also an advantage. Currently we look to China to blame for unsafe products when they're recalled, we see it as a blob of land that contains a massive population. Do we consider that workers are also being exposed to these products, and probably in higher doses than what our own children are found to be?
What is it going to take to put a stop to these unsafe and dangerous work practices in China? Business must outsource their work to those that provide safe and clean workplaces for their workers. By avoiding those that do not have up to date equipment or do not consider safety gear, will eventually cause them to either shut down or incorporate more safety.
Business in America, business all around the world including that mom sitting at home behind her computer importing goods from China to sell on Ebay, must sit up and take action against these unsafe workplaces.
The reality is, where to next? When China becomes a problem and keeps getting the blame for many recalled dangerous products, which country is next?
Big business will then move onto another country that can provide cheap labor, bulldozing those that get in the way, who are the workers building and laboring to reach the end result. What is the end result? Cheap products, high profit margin.
So even if China is not mass-producing many goods in the coming years, do we just forget about unsafe work conditions when it comes to the dollar? No we cannot. Let's place everyone on an even playing field, stop this practice where it's being demanded, from the booming importing business of companies situated all around the world.
