Recently my fiance and I took a trip to Napa for a weekend of relaxation and wine tasting. Neither of us had previously been to Napa so naturally we were both very excited to visit this inspirational, artistic and scenic area of Northern California.
At the advice of several colleagues who have made Napa a frequent vacation spot we booked our accommodations at a local Bed & Breakfast, the Hennessey House (www.henneseyhouse.com). Upon first glance the property looked quaint, but had a very small town, colonial charm to it. Painted a very appealing lavender with a white accented, wrap around porch, the home itself was beautifully rustic. Luckily we made our reservations well in advance and had the pleasure of staying one of the carriage rooms. These are the largest rooms the Hennessey House has to offer and are extremely comfortable. The doors to these rooms are the original carriage house doors. They are as breathtaking as they are difficult to open however the beds are comfortable (*see tips below) and the bath tubs accommodate two people quite well. Equipped with rustic furniture, fireplace and private court yards, the Carriage Rooms are well worth the money and very romantic.
Your accommodations at the Hennessey House come with a complimentary breakfast which my fiance and I found to be adequate. The staff is extremely helpful and their wine cellar is available to you for chilling and storing wines. Your room also comes with a small wine fridge and the staff is always eager to uncork wine at your request. My fiance and I were lucky enough to be enjoying a bottle of Cakebread Chardonnay in the living room when we met a very charming couple we eventually accompanied on a wine tasting tour.
Winery Tours:
Originally my fiance and I had decided to drive around Napa and Calistoga aimlessly wandering the wineries and just let the day take its course. Upon talking with a few of the Hennessey House staff we discovered it would be well worth the investment to hire a tour guide and get a more in-depth tour along with a Designated Driver. We hired local driver Dan Dolan to take show us around for the day. What we soon found out is that we made the right decision. When Dan arrived he was driving a Black Tahoe and had plenty of room for the couple we had met the day before. Dan was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and came packed with plenty of water. The tour last about 5 hours and in that time Dan was able to use his connections to gain
