How to make the most of a box of baking soda

If you happen to have a box of baking soda somewhere around the home, treasure it. This is more than just a bland box of powder. The uses for this amazing substance appear to be endless.
The term "baking" soda simply doesn't do it justice as it's value extends far beyond it's use in cooking.

Baking soda, otherwise known as bicarbonate of soda, must go down as one of the most useful substances known to man. The next time you find yourself in the kitchen or the bathroom, whether you are cooking or cleaning, the chances are that baking soda would be useful in some way or another.

Cleaning your stove or cleaning your teeth? Try baking soda.
Trying to restore a badly burned pot or polishing silverware? Try baking soda.
Bothered by a bee sting or tackling a small fire? Try baking soda.

You could make your own baking powder but it's probably easier to buy it ready made.
Some of the common uses for this amazing substance are :

Clean vegetables and fruit.

Wash garbage cans.

Soak and wash diapers.

Clean your fridge and freezer.

Deodorize your fridge and freezer by putting in an open container of baking soda to absorb odors.

Clean combs and brushes.

Wash food and drink containers.

Clean thermos flasks

Clean baby bottles.

Polish silverware.

Relieve insect stings and bites.

Relieve sunburn.

Apart from all of it's practical uses around the home, baking soda will also put out fires in clothing, fuel, wood, upholstery and rugs.

The list of uses for baking soda is incredibly long and may not yet be complete. This basic substance has become so important over the years within households for a host of reasons. As an agent used in cooking, cleaning, health care, personal hygiene and safety, baking soda or bicarbonate of soda may just come in very handy on that desert island.
