Is America ready for a Mormon president?

This is a funny question to ask. In a nation that is supposed to operate on the idea of separation of church and state. Does it matter that a man is Mormon any more than it mattered if a man was Irish Catholic back in the days of Camelot. There is still much ignorance to the ideas and ways of the Mormon church. Throughout history we have seen many great Mormons.

John Browning- Gunsmith
William Clayton- Inventor
Ty Detmer- Quarterback
The Jetts- Musicians
Neil Labute- Screenwriter
Mike Madson- Meteorologist
Jack Yerman- Olympian
Levi Stuart Udall- Chief Justice
Melvin Cook- Chemist
William Hall- Chemist
Trina Boice- novelist

These are just eleven Mormons that have made an impact on our society. There are thousands. Is our nation any more ready for a black president or a woman? Our nation is ready for change and that change should come at the hands of the person best capable of doing the job. If that person is a woman a black man a Mormon or even an extra terrestrial that was born in the U.S. and can do the job by all means let's allow them to do it and not pay attention to the belief structure in which they govern their lives. Mitt Romney's religion should not be a factor in this election. Our forefathers formed this nation on the ideas that freedom of religion should and would be one of our most basic rights. Ross Perot is a soulless idiot and he was allowed to run and make a very competent showing.

The religions that have represented our nation have been limited to date. The idea that J.F.K. could possible be elected was huge. Not being a Romney supporter it would warm my heart that our nation would welcome a Mormon into the job as it would if we welcomed an atheist. A persons religion is not what is up for debate in the election process. A persons abilities are. We look at such odd things when it comes to picking a president, when the reality is that we should be looking at the persons thoughts on policy. A president has to be flexible and stern and a diplomat. If a Mormon is capable of these three things by all means lets put him in there. As always these are only my opinions and I could be wrong.
