There are many things that people can do in order to help protect their environment. The most commonly practiced is to implement the three R's, reduce, reuse and recycle. While these are effective and simple to do not everyone does them.
Recycling waste can be as simple as ensuring that you purchase products that are biodegradable, that means that they are able to be broken down naturally by the environment however that unfortunately is not enough.
Reusing is also helpful, one of the ways that I reuse is by taking my old butter containers and using them as Tupperware. This ensures that harmful plastics are kept out of our city's land fill sites. Plastics are not biodegradable and they can be very harmful to the environment and it's animals.
Using the 4 liter plastic milk jugs as bird feeders had multiple benefits, firstly you are again keeping the plastic out of the land fills and secondly you are providing food for the birds in your community.
Recycling is one of the most important things that anyone can do to ensure the survival of our environment. There are many ways that every one can recycle and most of them cost little to no money at all to do.
There are recycling facilities at most hardware stores and grocery stores however if you don't have one in your neighborhood, there are numbers that you can call to have someone pick up your recyclables for a small cost.
Recycling your plastic milk jugs by placing them in the proper bin can make a big difference. Crushing any cardboard products and placing them in recycling instead of your garbage is another way to recycle.
Cans, glass, newspaper, cardboard and some plastics can be recycled and unfortunately not enough people do it. Old clothing is another thing that anyone can recycle provided that the clothing is in good condition. Many second hand stores will take adult and children's clothing and some will even buy the clothing from you for a fair price.
Another thing that can be recycled is leaves and other garden and yard clippings. Putting the leaves that you rake up into a compost heap is a great way to keep the garbage out of the land fill and the processed clippings are great fertilizers for your garden, most importantly it also helps the environment because it gives you an alternative to chemical fertilizers.
While implementing the three R's is a very effective way to be friendly to our environment, it is not enough. Our largest concern should be water, this as we all know is not a renewable resource and as such
