The question isn't half as simple as the title states "Who would win in a fight: Superman or Batman?". What it should read instead is "Who would win in a fight, given that the two superheroes do want to fight, and are of a mind that the other is an enemy, and thus would want to eliminate him, preventing him from coming back in the next comic book?".
Now that the discussion topic has been cleared up, I can with a clear conscience say that Batman has all likelihoods of winning.
Admittedly Superman has Super strength , and Super eye-beams and Super fashion sense to say the least, which would factor in heavily on his side in most battles. He also has a strange propensity to need to duck into phone booths before using any of those Super powers that are essential to his fighting ability. His need to protect innocent civilians and the need to hide his identity from those around him, especially his love-interest Lois Lane, are factors that would cause him to lose the fight with Batman, if they were to fight that is.
Any intelligent villain, or person who wishes to defeat Superman, would understand these crucial factors, and remove all bright red phone booths from the vicinity of Superman, and challenge him in an area that is a)Heavily populated with the infirm, under-aged and pregnant and b)Where Lois Lane is ready with a camera and notepad. And Batman, if he so chooses, has demonstrated the ability to be as Machiavellian as this.
Batman has on his side, one weapon that can easily defeat Superman, and that is money. As all and sundry would know, Batman is rich, filthy rich, rolling in cash rich, and short of losing it all in a massive series of bad investments, will continue to be rich. And one knows what money can buy: Cars (Really dig that Batmobile versions 1, 1.1, 1.2, 2etc), Intelligent help (Alfred would be the scariest super-villain in Gotham if he so chose), and more importantly to this battle, Kryptonite. Putting aside his kick-ass moves, fancy gadgets and cynicism, Batman has the money and hence power to completely neutralize Superman if he wanted, and that would of course, win him the battle.
I can just imagine the finishing blow in their fight, where Batman pulls out the Kryptonite and watches Superman fall to his knees. Then whipping out a pair of spectacles, slaps it onto Superman's face, watches as realization seeps into the minds of the innocent bystanders nearby as well as Lois Lane, and chuckles darkly as Superman gets doomed to a fate of B rate movies and fan mobbing. That would be a dark knight indeed.
