How to market your Helium article

An internet marketing specialist will tell you that you need to cough up some serious dough in order to get your Helium articles a large amount of traffic. What a liar! Internet marketing specialists do have a fair amount of knowledge about what works and what doesn't, but it's nothing you can't learn to do in the next several minutes.

Get your money-making hat and put that bad boy on. You might want to grab a Snickers bar; that should give you an idea of how long this will take. Put yourself into "shameless self-promotion" mode and justify it by knowing that you're actually doing the World Wide Web a great service. Are you going to leave those poor readers alone and scared out there, with nothing good to read? Of course you're not - they need you!

Here's the inside scoop.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CLICKS
Internet marketing specialists will tell you that you've got to network - and they're absolutely right! However, you can do it on your own. Getting started is the longest part; once you've begun, everything gets easier.

Sign up for all of the following sites (some of which have perks of their own, so you'll be getting a double whammy by joining):

Gather
Current
MySpace
D igg
Del.icio.us
Any other social networking site that you think shows promise (and that you have the patience to try)

GATHER
Gather is a world of its own. While the interface positively stinks and the look of it screams "unprofessional," it's a fantastic way to promote your articles and increase your earnings exponentially. Added perk: every time you post or make a comment, you earn something called Gather Points - and you can cash them in for Borders gift cards and other cool stuff.

1. Take your time scouring the site and inviting anyone and everyone (and their brother) to "connect" with you.

2. Browse the groups and join as many as you can; you'll find that people on there want their Gather Points, so by joining those groups you're also doing them a favor.

3. Publish an article. Rather, publish a teaser and a link to your Helium article. Copy the first few paragraphs of your Helium article and leave off mid-sentence - something like this: "When she came out screaming and flailing her gelatinous arms, everyone thought..." After that, use some simple HTML (instructions are listed at the bottom of this page) to create a link to your article; if they want the rest of the gripping story, they've got to click - and you'll earn money from each one.

CURRENT
Current is an internet marketing specialist's dream. If your article
