"There are two types of fisherman - those who fish for sport and those who fish for fish." Some folks fish to relax or to spend time with friends and family. Whatever your reason, in San Diego, you'll invariably enjoy great weather while you fish in anywhere from a suburban neighborhood to a remote mountain.

Ten fabulous places to fish in San Diego

1. Lake Cuyamaca

Sits in the Cuyamaca Mountains. It's a 110 acre lake is great for trout fishing because of the cold water up there. Boats and shoreline fishing are allowed and there's a campground available. Fish: Rainbow trout, sturgeon, smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill.

2. Dixon Lake
Located to the northeast of Escondido. A record-setting 25 pound bass fish was caught here. The lake is becoming know for huge bass, because of the trout farm planted in the lake. Offers nearby campgrounds, but private boats are banned. Fish: Largemouth bass, trout, catfish

3. Lower Otay Reservoir
Just east of Chula Vista, this is the bassmaster tournament lake. Fish: Bass, bass, bass; and catfish and bluegill

4. Lake Jennings
Located in East County, between Lakeside and El Cajon, it's known for huge catfish in the 12 to 15 pound range. Stocked trout can be found here. Shore fishing with adjacent campground. Fish: Catfish, trout, bass, bluegill.

5. Lake Miramar
This is near the Miramar Naval Air Station and is a heavily populated area. The lake is in Scripps Ranch and offers all sorts of recreation including bicycling, jogging and rollerblading around the lake. Picnic only, no camping. Fish: Bass, trout, channel catfish,
bluegill.

6. Lake Morena
Remote fishing lake in the Mount Laguna foothills. Two great campgrounds, with fully equipped or primitive camping. Fabulous trout fishing in the winter-time. Fish: Trout, bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill.

7. Lake Murray
This lake is located in a residential area of Sa Carlos. The lake is well known for big bass and the area around the lake is very popular for picnics, joggers, bicyclists and rollerbladers... Also, motor boats, rowboats and paddle boats rented here - private canoes allowed. Fish: Trout, bass, catfish, bluegill

8. San Vicente Reservoir
Nearly 14 miles of shoreline make this one of the largest lakes in America. Tournaments are often hosted here and is used as for water recreation. Fish: Bass, catfish, bluegill

9. Chollas Lake
Located in the urban area of Oak Park, not far from San Diego State University. Fishing is allowed only for kids under 15 years of age. It's a kids camp lake with fishing workshops and day camps for kids. Fish: Bluegill, trout.

10. Santee Lakes
This is a chain of seven small lakes created by using reclaimed water. Located in the midst of the town of Santee. Popular recreation area with campgrounds and picnic facilities. Primarily a recreation, not really for serious fishing. Fish: Catfish, bluegill
