A cake is a symbol of love, of happiness, a form of celebration. There are a few things to take into account. First, determine how many people will be enjoying the cake, maybe it's best to over-estimate. Second, who is the cake for, and what kind of cake is their favorite? Different cakes go better with different flavors of icing. For example: with a chocolate cake perhaps use a vanilla icing so as not to make it too rich,or vice versa. Personally, I love to just sprinkle powdered sugar over the cake. As for those craving icing here are some at-home recipes.
Strawberry icing:
1/4 pkg. thawed strawberries. powdered sugar.
1/4 stick melted margarine.
add strawberries and margarine, add powdered sugar till spreading consistency.
Carmel icing:
9 Tbsp. Brown sugar. 6 Tbsp. light cream
3 Tbsp. butter
combine then cook for 3 minutes.
let cool, mix with powdered sugar until spreading consistency.
No cook white icing:
2 egg whites. 1 Tbsp. white vinegar
2/3 cup Karo
beat all together until it is thick and stands in peaks.
It has come from my experience that icing should be applied when cake is cooled.
